Sunday, October 13, 2013 – 4:00 PM
Venue: St. Mary of Assumption

Destined to be a 'concert for the ages', this program could take us all to new emotional heights; the scope and diversity of the repertoire, some of which is being introduced to the Mid- West, has the potential to transport both singers and audience to levels seldom possible in one concert. Performed in reverse-chronological order, the concert opens with five selections from composers at the forefront of choral writing today, James MacMillan (Scotland), Arvo Part (Estonia), Eriks Esenvalds (Latvia), and America's Stephen Paulus and Kevin Seigfried. The second half features music of great choral composers 'through the ages', with classic works from Byzantium through the 20th Century, highlighted by works of two masters, Palestrina and Bruckner. Our special guests for this concert will be Lancaster-Fairfield Youth Choir, directed by Andrew Brown.

"A Babe Is Born"

Venue: St. Mary of Assumption, Lancaster

The concert begins from the choir loft, with the title selection by William Mathias, featuring organist, Paul Thornock, and continues with Chorale surrounding the audience from the aisles, with the beautiful, lyric 'CROWN MY HEART' by James Whitbourn. Continuing from the front of the sanctuary, we'll hear 'AWAY IN A MANGER' & 'COVENTRY CAROL', new settings by Ola Gjeilo, 'CROWN OF ROSES...THE LEGEND' by Tchaikovsky, and Sir David Willcocks' 'SEE AMIDST THE WINTER'S SNOW'. Men of Chorale open the second half with Franz Bieble's timeless 'AVE MARIA', followed by Tavener's 'HYMN TO THE MOTHER OF GOD'. A speci a l highlight, 'A Peaceful Christmas', is a setting of three selections by Stephen Paulus and Jeffrey Van, featuring harpist, Jeanne Norton; Chorale will be joined by an Honor Quartet from Lancaster High School for this segment, as well as John Rutter's 'O HOLY NIGHT'.

Five wonderful choirs from Lancaster will fill the afternoon with music! In a celebration of choral music, we bring together Lancaster-Fairfield Youth Choir, One Voice, Lancaster Men's Chorus, Lancaster Community Chorus and Lancaster Chorale! Each group will perform individually, and then all join for what will be an assembly of voices never before heard in Lancaster! Chorale's presentation will be a reprisal of 'SHERMAN: FORCED TO WAR', an original piece commissioned with Robert Page, with narration by Playwright, Kirk Hathaway. Actor, Mark Mann returns in the role he created as General Sherman in perhaps Chorale's best-known and loved work. Do you know another community the size of Lancaster that can boast a youth choir, women’s choir, men’s choir, community chorus and a professional choir? Celebrate with pride and join us!
